GATEWAY OF INDIA, MUMBAI
MORE THAN A CITY. A FEELING.

Wander Mumbai
your own way.

Salt in the air. Chai on the corner. A hundred lives unfolding on a single street. Mumbai doesn’t ask you to see it all — it asks you to lean in.

These are the six places we’d never let a friend miss. Visit them in any order, on any day — and let the city fill in the rest.

  1. Gateway of India01 · HERITAGE

    Gateway of India

Built in honey-coloured basalt and completed in 1924, the Gateway has watched over a century of arrivals and departures. In 1948, the last British troops sailed away from here — a fitting final chapter for an arch built to welcome a king.

  2. Taj Mahal Palace02 · ARCHITECTURE

    Taj Mahal Palace

The red dome of the Taj Mahal Palace has been part of Mumbai’s skyline since 1903. Founded by Jamsetji Tata, the hotel blends Indian, Islamic and European influences. Pause outside to take in its ornate balconies and the rhythm of life along the harbour.

  3. Colaba Causeway03 · LOCAL LIFE

    Colaba Causeway

Brass curios, stacks of books and bright textiles spill out beneath old balconies. This is Mumbai at its most wonderfully everyday: a little chaotic, endlessly colourful, and always ready for a conversation.

  4. Kala Ghoda04 · ART & CULTURE

    Kala Ghoda

Named for a black horse statue that once stood here, Kala Ghoda is a compact neighbourhood with a big creative spirit. Galleries, independent bookshops and heritage buildings sit side by side.

  5. Flora Fountain05 · HERITAGE

    Flora Fountain

Carved in 1864 and crowned by the Roman goddess Flora, this fountain sits at Hutatma Chowk, the square renamed for those who died fighting for a Marathi-speaking Bombay. Around it, banks and colonial offices still hum with the city’s business.

  6. Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus06 · UNESCO WORLD HERITAGE

    Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus

Finished in 1888, this Victorian Gothic masterpiece is still one of the busiest railway stations on earth. Look up at the gargoyles, stained glass and the statue of Progress on the dome — then step inside to feel three million daily journeys rush past.
